Please join us for a moderated panel discussion at the University of Pennsylvania on the connections between the Religious Society of Friends (the Quakers) and Japan. This relationship has influenced lives and institutions on both sides of the Pacific since the late 19th century and continues to do so today.

Discussion will focus on prominent historical figures from within the Society of Friends and their contributions to historical development in Japan, as well as current Quakers from within the Japanese American community. The presentation will appeal to anyone with an interest in Quaker studies, modern Japanese and American history, Japanese American and Asian American studies, as well as international religious history.

This event is co-sponsored by the Digital Museum of the History of Japanese in New York and the Japan America Society of Greater Philadelphia. Hosted by Center for East Asian Studies at the University of Pennsylvania.
